One way was a risky climbing down or abseiling for a hundred metres, but perhaps there was an alternative path somewhere.

“It’s best policy to go in pairs anytime any one of us separate from the group. Anyone willing to go for a short run?”

"They want to look for a way down, seems a suitable person. Try to stay within my scope range and make noise if you get in trouble."

"I was planning on looking for a better place to head down, anyway," Kiran nodded. "I'll go for the scouting."

Kiran puts two fingers above their eyebrow and gives Lydia a little salute. "Will do. I should be able to spot your scope from where we'll be."

He then secured his things and began jogging. Quietly he monitored Kiran to check their capacity for jogging and keep a pace that would be comfortable for them.

Kiran seems to be about average in athletic ability, so they don't lag too far behind. "You know, when I bought that crash survival kit, I didn't expect to come quite that close to its literal purpose."

"There should be rope in the supplies. We can anchor up top and tandem climb down with our strongest climber picking the path if there's not a walkable route," Razar suggests. "I want to check out the bodies too, that's why I aimed for this location. There should be flares in the emergency kit as well. There's no guarantee the other thopter will see it through the canopy, but I think it's worth a shot to see if they spot us, but it would also potentially give our position away if there are any others around here, which is not ideal. But if they didn't notice a thopter and a bunch of flying mantas conducting electricity they may not notice a flare. Otherwise, they probably already know our direction and that we're present already if there are others in the area."

Going - or running - by the cliff's edge revealed that the perpendicularity of the rock had little exception for miles in either direction. The very structure of the basalt encouraged this feature, long columns from top to bottom. However, there were caves beneath, with their mouths at the sea level...

Kiran's pale blue eyes swept the cliff carefully, frowning slightly in thought as their eyes caught on something...

The point of interest lay in the other direction, actually. Along the cliff's edge, high over some of the caves the mouths of which were now shrouded in thickening darkness down below, there seemed to be a stretch of the junglefront that lacked some density. Not exactly a clearing, more like a trail.

“You ever been to this coast before?”

Kiran shook their head and smiled back slightly. "I spent my whole life on the continent north of here."

They point to the point where the forest thins out. "See that? Looks like a trail."

“Let’s take a closer look, and then report back.”

What they became aware of immediately was that was indeed a trail, one made through use of machetes or similar cutting blades, and used only recently as the cuts were fresh enough. The vegetation was trodden on on the way wherever the trail led.

While a few would scout the edge Eileen would head for the canopy and get enough of what she needed to hide the thopter

Efren went forward to check but had a hard time deciphering anything from all the hacking and slashing that the previous visitors had left behind.

He could at least tell they had done so to be able to pass while walking over hard rock, which was the volcanic basalt the cliffs were made of. Along the trail, the path seemed to be descending into a small winding gorge, invisible from above because of the thick canopies.

While a few would scout the edge Eileen would head for the canopy and get enough of what she needed to hide the thopter.

That would take quite a bit of work for one person, and a big blade.

"Definitely, I agree. This is recent, and between that and the bodies, this trail was built by the cartel," Kiran noted. "We don't want to encounter any of them by surprise."
