"That's why I'm not. So here's the deal, if I keep you safe from you, will you keep me safe from me?"

"We'll find a way." She assured him. "I'll do whatever I can."

Xard wasn't sure what she could but he wasn't about to dismiss any help.

"I'll be in your debt."

He then glanced at Kiran, subconsciously seeking support from them as well, as if he had reasons to believe they could find a way to save his daughter others couldn't.

He couldn't help but beam at that. And for the moment, the sentiment is enough. But even as he quietly said,

"I will."

A shadow lingered, filling him with disquiet. But he did his very best not to let it ruin the moment by shifting a little closer towards her.

"Just... be a little patient with me."

Xard wasn't sure what she could but he wasn't about to dismiss any help.

He then glanced at Kiran, subconsciously seeking support from them as well, as if he had reasons to believe they could find a way to save his daughter others couldn't.

Kiran looked at the unconscious woman, thoughtful. They rubbed one arm unconsciously, some part of them remembering the feeling of the Tleilaxu poison running through their veins. "It's honestly a miracle she's alive between the poison and gas. You're daughter is a strong woman. I'm sure she's fighting to come back as we speak," they said. They pressed a hand to their lips. "I wonder if its possible to deliberately create the same sort of connection that allowed us to help one another before to help her brain build pathways around the damage. It happened once, so there must be a method."

"She would stop at nothing to get to you. I know she's fighting." Cuyler nodded. She looked at Kiran with curiosity. "What kind of connection?"

Kiran looked to Cuyler. "We shared a dream when we were under the influence of the corrupted ailar. Obviously, that's not acceptable as a drug. It could kill her in her current state. But if it's possible to sync up dreams and memories like that, maybe that technique could help."

"I experienced shared memory once. It wasn't with anyone living, but it was a memory I could interact with." She considered the possibilities. "Melange led to it."

"Not this time." He squeezed her hand softly as he started to drift again. "Hey Laila?"

She was simply looking at him now, sorely tempted to crawl into the bed.
Only the fact that Yueh would certainly throw her out of the infirmary kept the idea at bay.

A regular scientist would dismiss it. But Xard had lived among the Muadh as an anthropologist, had dreamt with Kiran and others, and was very desperate. So, with all due respect to Dr Yueh's intensive care, he clung to the idea. He was already mincing words in his head how to convince his colleague, Dr Kynes, to provide him with some off-the-books melange. It was rather criminal... What could he offer in return? He had no favours of this calibre to pull.

"I will be seeking melange to address the lingering poison within me." She added. "I don't know how much I may be able to acquire, but I will do what I can."

"Not this time." He squeezed her hand softly as he started to drift again. "Hey Laila?"

"Hm?"

"You busy tomorrow morning?"

His eyes were closed but he wore a smirk.

He said fading back into his own dreamland.

She leaned down to whisper into his ear, close enough that her breath might have the desired effect.

"Sleep is overrated."

No verbal response, but his grin did get wider. And he did subconsciously angle himself more towards her. Sadly it would be another hour or two under the sheets before he could reciprocate as much over them.

[Ambrose Pantazis]

Everyone seemed to be on a quick road to recovery. What Dr. Yueh had done was nothing less than a miracle.

When there was a lull in patient treatments, Ambrose took the opportunity to strike up a conversation with the man. "Dr. Yueh, I'm amazed by what you've done here. If I knew half the techniques you employed, I can't imagine the effect that could have on the battlefield."

[Kannon]

"Suk training is very expensive. Mine was funded by House Richese before the Great Spice War." Yueh calmly explained, touching the diamond tattoo on his head. "But skill is still secondary to the conditioning. Without the imperative I cannot break, I would have faltered tonight." The doctor sat down to drink a special concoction of nutrients, taking his moment of reprieve.
