Protecting the camp (D2 Night)

Posted: Thu Aug 08, 2024 8:06 pm
by Lydia Storm
With the mess the day had been, plus all the extra information now learnt about a cartel snatching people, Lydia knew it was likely more important now than ever to keep the camp watched over. And since they had gained two extra people, one of which being a serial escaper, making sure people that were in stayed in and anything that was outside stayed out also mattered.

She managed to keep a sigh to herself as she moved quietly through the jungle around the camp. Listening and watching.

Unbeknownst to her, something found her. And followed her in predatory silence.

Bern was there, of course, Patrolling. Being useful in the darkness. He wasn't the best of seeing things, but his instincts were incredibly sharp. This was the final stretch, and his chance to wrap this up and make his way back home.

Hadrian wandered the darkness with eyes wide and senses alert. If there was something to be seen he didn't see it. But whatever lurked in the night would have heard him coming a mile off. He wasn't even trying to be stealthy in the hopes that Lydia would blow her cover to angrily berate him.

Hadrian was indeed making noise...

[Player Pool: 2, GM Pool: 3]

... and that drew Bernard to him. The brothers couldn't even share a greeting, however, because the beast finally decided to strike. However, the Sergeant's preternatural impulse to pull his brother behind a tree saved them from being ambushed.

"Stay strong. Don't run, little brother; we'll get thru this!" He drew his shotgun out and prepared to stand firm. He was a leader; leaders don't just bolt.

The sharp pull stunned Hadrian who had been surprisingly overjoyed to see his brother. But here they are now ducked in cover and all he could think of was that time they'd snuck into Grey's bullpen and come face to face with old Ulysses. He'd already figured running would be out of the question... this time.

"This isn't my first rodeo." He smirked checking the chamber of his own gun.

The beast didn't look native to these jungles. It didn't look native to anywhere. It was more like a nightmare creation of some sick geneticist playing with dog or wolf genome. Bone tissue protruded from among its fur in dense rows of blade-like spikes, providing both weapon and carapace. It had unhinged, extreme taste for gore and violence in the eyes...

Bernard takes a shot in the dark (somewhat literally) and...really has nothing to show for it. "Alright, begin to fall back." His hope to knock it down to the ground to stall fucked, he quickly turned his shield on and drew out his sword. "I'll try to distract it."

Where Bernard took a shot in the dark and missed, Lydia took her aim used to her surroundings and landed a hard hit. Trying to draw its attention away from the others.

The beast growled from pain as the bullet crossed the spiky carapace and dug into its flesh. However, it was smart enough to determine what had hit it and lurched toward Lydia with its sundering maw open wide, rows of razor-sharp teeth glistening in scant moonlight. Red eyes were seeing right through whatever cover darkness would have otherwise provided.

[8 Wounds]

[Manoeuvre to move one band to Engaged, Attack.]

The teeth almost caught with her, but the instinctive pullback made her just smell the ferrous breath of the beast. But it did catch with her weapon. The beast clenched teeth over it, gnawed once, and tossed it away, broken.

Hadrian was lining up to aim when his brother fired and ordered him to fall back. But watching it go after Lydia he stayed put and insured that the shot would find purchase.

He could tell despite the darkness that it had effect, no matter how negligible.

Seeing Lydia having a rough time with no shield on and her gun having a better day, Bern immediately rushes in and engages with the beast. He wasn't the best in combat, but he could properly poke the creature hard enough.

That skin was no joke, though. Still, a small cut may be good enough for a small distraction to have it just...likely ruin his shield.
